STUCCO CRACK REPAIR

Stucco crack repair means opening the crack, filling it with a flexible patching material, and matching the surrounding texture so the wall reads as one surface again — not smearing caulk into a hairline and painting over it. Florida block homes crack for predictable reasons: walls heat and cool daily, sandy soil settles, and stucco is rigid while the house underneath keeps moving. Nate looks at every crack before quoting, tells you which ones matter, and writes the whole repair in one number.

Stucco

What this covers.

Hairline vs. structural — reading the crack

Most Brevard stucco cracks are hairlines from thermal cycling — the wall expands in afternoon sun, shrinks at night, and the finish eventually gives at the weak points. Stair-step cracks tracking the block joints, or wide cracks near corners and window heads, usually mean settlement. Both are repairable; they just need different depths of attention, and the walk-through sorts one from the other honestly.

Why caulk-and-paint fails every time

Caulk smeared into a crack sits on the surface, shines under paint, and splits again the first summer the wall moves. Paint alone bridges a hairline for a season before it telegraphs straight back through. Neither addresses the opening itself — which keeps drinking rainwater into the block behind it. A crack that’s been “fixed” three times this way is the most common wall we see.

How we actually repair it

We open the crack into a V-groove so the patch has something to grip, clean it out, and fill with an elastomeric patching compound that flexes with the wall instead of splitting beside it. Then the part most crews skip: matching the surrounding texture — sand, knockdown or smooth — and blending the edges so the repair disappears. Painted or color-blended, you shouldn’t be able to find it.

Questions

Asked before booking.

Are hairline stucco cracks something to worry about?

Individually, rarely — structurally the house is fine. But every open hairline drinks wind-driven rain, and Florida delivers plenty of it. Moisture behind stucco is the real cost. Repairing hairlines while they’re small is quick work; letting them collect for years turns a patch job into a wall job.

Why do the cracks keep coming back after previous repairs?

Almost always because the repair was rigid — caulk or cement smeared into a moving joint. The wall keeps cycling with the heat, the stiff patch can’t flex, and it splits along the same line. A V-grooved, elastomeric repair moves with the wall, which is why it holds where the quick fixes didn’t.

Will the repair be visible afterward?

Not if the texture matching is done right — and that’s most of the craft. We match the existing finish, feather the edges, and either blend the color or fold the repair into a repaint. Nate looks at the wall before quoting so the match is planned, not improvised on a ladder.
